Good evening! Today is Day 37 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer :)
Today I got to continue to work on my cinematography game, specifically the player’s behavior.
Check out how far my player has come!
If you remember from my earlier post, this is what he used to look like…
Let’s break down a few things going on here:
The first thing that needed to happen was fixing the issue of my player walking through objects. You can’t really see it in the gif above but there was some adjustments that needed to be made to ensure that the player would not be able to through objects. Luckily, all that needed to happen was to make the objects static in the inspector. …
Hello! Here is a recap Day 36 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer :)
Take a look:
May not look like it but that little capsule is my player!
Here’s what’s going on….
First, I needed to setup the floor through a process called “baking” so that boundaries are set as to where the game characters can and cannot navigate.
This is done through the navigation window by:
Hi there! Here is a recap of Days 33, 34 & 35 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer :)
I worked on my game just a bit over the weekend which is why I’m grouping days 33 and 34 with my post for today, Day 35.
Slowly but surely this game is coming together. Over the weekend and today I worked on finishing up my very last cutscene which is ~1minute long!
Check it out:
This last scene consists of a whopping 14 different shots all with their own animations and even a voice over track! …
Hello! Here is a recap of Day 32 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer :)
Friday was the end of my 5th week here as an intern at GameDevHQ! Reflecting back on my week I realized that it was not the most productive in terms of my game. Even though my game isn’t as far along as I would like, I am really happy that I got quite a bit of practice breaking down coding problems which is what this internship is all about; developing the skills to be not just a game developer but a developer who can figure out how to solve whatever problems may come their way. …
Hello! Here is a recap of yesterday, Day 31 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer :)
Today I did a little bit of work on my game but mostly focused on doing Unity game challenges. This gave me an opportunity to work with some of my teammates to try and solve these challenges. Yesterday was a good reminder of what I love about programming. Every idea, every feature, these challenges, they’re all basically just puzzles that need to be solved. The process to get there is engaging and working with my teammates to figure it out was super fun. …
Hello. Today is Day 30 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer!!
I cannot believe I am half way through this internship already. Boy, this has been such an amazing journey so far. I am having so much fun learning game development! Looking forward to the next 30 days :-).
30 Day Recap: The Good.
Hi! Here is a recap of yesterday, Day 29 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer :)
Yesterday started off well. As mentioned in my last post, I continued working on my gameover cutscene. Later in the day I had to switch to another game and when I opened my cinematography project back up again I was met with this.
That git issue I had from a couple days ago came back with a vengeance. …
Hello there. Here is a recap of yesterday, Day 28 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer!
Getting lots of practice using Cinemachine and Timeline!
Take a look at what I was working on:
Hello! Today is Day 27 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer!
I fixed the issue I was having yesterday! Well…. for the most part :-).
So, earlier today in my Day 26 post I mentioned how it seemed like that wacky issue I was having where everything looked super dark might be a lighting issue … as it turns out it may have been related to the changes I made in GIT! One of the things I tried to do was remove a large file that was keeping me from being able to push to Github. I didn’t think it had anything in it that would prevent the game from being able to compile correctly but once I put the folder back in the game everything ran fine! …
Good Morning! Here is a recap of yesterday, Day 26 of my 60 day challenge to become a Unity Game Developer!
Yesterday was frustrating. Not gonna lie. It started off with me spending an hour or so trying to remove a large file from a commit that wouldn’t push to github due to how big it was. I tried tracking the file with git lfs as well as removing the file, resetting it back to a previous commit and all kinds of trickery to get it to work. I have gone through this before with the 2D shooter as well which resulted in me losing about a day or so of progress…No pressure… Luckily, I didn’t lose any work this time but still know that I need much more practice with git before I really get a handle on it. …
